Configuring Products
How to configure a Product in Product Rentals Pro
Once you've imported a Product, you can configure it within Product Rentals Pro.
Configuring a product in Product Rentals Pro includes:
Setting the number of units for each Option value (or combination of values) the Product has, for Options set up as affecting units.
Setting the number of days for each Option value the Product has, for Options set up as affecting duration (only applicable when system is set to Predefined durations)
Setting any Discount Tiers for reducing the daily rental fee for longer durations (only applicable when system is set to Manual date-ranges)
Add additional start or end buffer to the Product. This is only required if this Product requires more/less buffer than your defaults from the Rental Settings.
Everything else is powered by either your Product Options & Variants created in Shopify.
How to Configure a Product
First, locate the Product using search from the Products list, after navigating to "Products" from the main Product Rentals Pro app menu. Then click "Configure Product".
Example of the Product Configuration screen Set Units For the Option values or value combinations appearing in the Units table, enter the number of units you have of that Product. For example, if a particular Product, the "SkiPro3000 Helmet" has Size and Colour options, a row in the table might be: Size: Small, Colour: Red. You would enter the quantity of Small Red SkiPro3000 Helmets you have available for rent.
If applicable, set Durations The Durations box is only relevant and only displayed if your system is set to Predefined durations. For the Option values appearing in the Duration table, enter the number of rental days that each value represents. Product Rentals Pro will try to automate this when the Product is first imported. For example, if the product had a "Rental Period" Option with value "4 days", the app will automatically default the duration value to "4". In some cases it won't be able to do this, for example - if you have an Option value called "Week". The value would start as empty and you would need to enter "7" as the duration for this Option value.
If applicable, set Discount Tiers The Discount Tiers box is only relevant and only displayed if your system is set to Manually-selected date ranges. Here you can apply discounts to the daily rate set against the product/variant in Shopify. Say your item's standard rental fee was $10/day, but if the customer is renting for more than 5 days, you want it to become $9/day. You would click
and then enter Days Greater Than as 5, and Discount Percent as 10%. You can add additional tiers if you want even greater discount to apply for even longer durations. For example, Days Greater Than as 10, with Discount Percent as 15%. The discount applies to all days, not just the days over the tier threshold, making it a single daily rate applicable to the rental, which keeps it simple for the customer.
Only if applicable, set Additional buffers for the product. This is only required if the product needs more start buffer days or end buffer days than your defaults set in Rental Settings. As an example, you may usually allow one day for cleaning and restoration of all your rental equipment, but the product you're configuring needs 3 days. In this case you would set an additional end buffer of 2 days.
Save your changes
If you're not seeing Options you would expect to see in the Product configuration Units and Durations tables, it is likely because those Options haven't yet been set as either affecting Units or affecting Duration. This can be done on the Options & Variants Settings screen.
