# Rental Settings - Checkout Restrictions

If you have multiple delivery methods enabled in your Rental Settings, these will show as pills on the product page within the rental widget. These can be used to show different availability and date selection options based on the delivery method selection.

By default, this doesn't impact what can be selected at checkout. This is controlled by your [Shopify Shipping Settings](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/fulfillment/setup).

Previously, if you were to select a different method at checkout from what was selected on the product page, Product Rentals Pro would send an automated notification to the store admin once the order was placed, advising of the mis-match. Even though we notify, this can still be tedious, as manual adjustments or checks might be required.

However, we've just released new features that allow you to restrict the selection at checkout based on what was selected on the product page.

Below we'll explain how the settings work and also, **importantly**, how to change the messages customers see at checkout when a delivery method is restricted, so they aren't left confused.

## Configuring Restrictions

On the [Rental Settings](/user-guide/settings/rental-settings.md) screen, under each delivery method, the last fields relate to delivery method checkout restrictions.

For each delivery method in PRP, you can restrict checkout options by delivery method type (shipping, pick-up from store and local delivery).

For example, if you want to prevent a customer from selecting all pick-up and local delivery options at checkout, if they chose shipping on the product page in the rental widget, then you could apply the following settings:

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/8AYhayREelUshS7COCPQ" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

Disabling all options of a specific delivery method type is straightforward. However, let's say your store had 3 shipping options - Express Post, Standard Post, and Rural Post - but you only wanted to allow selection of Express Post on the product page. You can do this by selecting *Hide some shipping methods* and then entering text that matches the names of the shipping options you want hidden. For example:

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/JHgbQsQKYoCfSgBFmH49" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

## Updating Checkout Messages (Default Theme Content)

The default message shown by Shopify in checkout when a delivery method isn't available isn't very well suited to the scenario enabled by the restrictions configured above. For example, this is what Shopify typically shows when there are no options for pick-up for a product in the cart.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/benf8dSfCEO0PYHiOHzS" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

And this when there are no Shipping options:

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/HpqndWvi8tJ6TTPOGnw5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

To update these messages you need to edit the **Theme Content** on the relevant theme of your online store.

### Step-by-Step Guide

1. In Shopify admin, go to **Online Store**\
   &#x20;

2. On the relevant theme, click the three dots button, then **Edit default theme content**<br>

   <div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/gTi0okj6xd36hQh0KmvV" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

3. Click the *Search* icon at the top right of the Theme content table and then type in text that matches the message you currently see at checkout. At the time this guide was written you could search for the following strings:\
   \
   "*Your order cannot be shipped"* which should bring up the **Checkout shipping errors shipping method not available generic > One** field.\
   \
   "*No locations in {{ country }}*" which should bring up the **Checkout local pickup pickup unavailable banner title with country > One and Other** fields.\
   &#x20;

4. You can now type your own messages into these fields, so that customers see something more meaningful and so they know what action they should take next. Some examples are below:<br>
