Security Authorisation Compatability

These limitations apply when electing to set up a security authorisation in PRP

Creating a security authorisation using our Security Deposits feature leverages Shopify's card-vaulting capabilities. However, when this is applied to a product in the customer's cart, Shopify restricts some options and features in the checkout. See below for the list of supported and/or unsupported payment gateways, payment methods and sales channels when using our security authorisation / card-vaulting feature.

Supported payment gateways

  • Shopify Payments

  • PayPal Express

  • Stripe

  • Some Authorize.net configurations

  • Adyen on Shopify Plus

Supported payment methods

The initial payment must be made using:

  • Credit or debit card

  • PayPal

Local payment methods and some alternative payment methods are not currently supported by Shopify for this type of checkout.

Checkout and sales channel limitations

Security authorisations with card vaulting is only supported through the Online Store sales channel.

There is no mechanism to do this via Shopify POS or orders created directly in the Shopify or PRP admin.

Discounts

Standard Shopify discount codes can be used, but in some cases Shopify may apply them differently when a deferred payment is involved. It's best you just try it with your discounting scenario to see the behaviour to ensure it works as expected.

Buy now, pay later

Buy now, pay later payment options, such as Afterpay, cannot be used on orders that include a security authorisation for vaulting card details.

Shopify will automatically disable these methods from checkout when a security authorisation / card vaulting product is detected in the cart.

Store credit and gift cards

Shopify Store Credit and gift cards cannot be used to pay for an order when a security authorisation / card vaulting is part of the order.
